20-Minute Sponsor Hosted Technical Sessions II

Tuesday, October 2 | 1:30 PM - 6:00 PM | Naples 3-4

1:30 PM – 1:50 PM: MicroThermal Energy – Monitoring Micro-Seismicity in Geothermal Reservoirs

MicroSeismic Inc. has been monitoring hydraulic fracturing for 20 years; using the same methods used for Oil & Gas reservoirs, MicroSeismic now offers monitoring services for geothermal reservoirs with MicroThermal Energy. MicroThermal Energy specializes in monitoring enhanced geothermal system (EGS) projects as hydraulic fracturing is used to create a reservoir. MicroThermal Energy uses surface monitoring techniques to detect microseismic events which can be used for a variety of purposes like calibrating velocity models, predicting induced seismic events, characterizing reservoir fracture behavior, and more.

  • Presented by MicroThermal Energy/MicroSeismic
  • Jonathan McKenna - Speaker

4:00 PM – 4:20 PM: Reda Thermal: Enhancing High-Enthalpy Geothermal Well Production with ESPs

Reda Thermal: Enhancing High-Enthalpy Geothermal Well Production with ESPs -- Andy Fastovets Extensive expertise derived from petroleum applications, combined with recent breakthroughs in high-temperature materials and ESP technology, resulted in a purpose-built “Reda Thermal” geothermal ESP system capable of delivering over 1,000 HP with superior reliability and efficiency in extreme well temperatures of more than 200ºC (392ºF). Pilot deployment in Turkey helped to validate performance and demonstrate longer-term reliability for the newly developed high-enthalpy “Reda Thermal” ESP, while boosting individual well revenue by over 50% for the operator. ThermoBlade™ - Thermal-resistant diamond element bits -- Davide Fanti ThermoBlade bits mitigate the effects of thermal degradation to increase PDC cutter durability, extend bit life and improve overall bit performance to save customers drilling time and costly bit trips. Or longer version: To achieve greater leach depths while properly managing residual stresses, engineers at SLB have designed a new thick diamond table cutter with a proprietary non-planar diamond table interface to create a PDC cutter which has increased thermal stability without sacrificing mechanical strength or toughness. PDC bits using these new thick diamond table cutters are classified as ThermoBlade. ThermoBlade bits mitigate the effects of thermal degradation to increase PDC cutter durability, extend bit life and improve overall bit performance to save customers drilling time and costly bit trips. ·       Presented by SLB

4:30 PM – 4:50 PM: The Geothermal Market is Heating Up, How Hot Can it Become?

What is the role of geothermal in the future energy mix? Which regions are set to star in tomorrow’s geothermal market and what does the future hold for capacity additions, drilled wells and turbine installations? How do costs and characteristics vary project-by-project?

  • Presented by Rystad Energy Inc.

5:00 PM – 5:20 PM: Multiplying Drilling Performance and Reducing Risk of Deep Drilling

Increasing drilling performance and reducing the risk of deep geothermal reservoir drilling are essential objectives for the successful development of geothermal energy projects. In this talk, you'll hear about the technical breakthroughs capping the cost of deep drilling, reducing risks, and how these together enable projects in ten times more areas than you can currently do today. Accessing and harnessing heat from the Earth's interior will be possible using advanced geothermal drilling technologies by GA Drilling starting next year. These "plug and play" technologies enable deeper and more productive drilling, accessing higher-temperature geothermal reservoirs.
